Hunter started playing for Montevallo High School in the eighth grade. He played catcher and third base his eighth grade year and batted .350 in the 6th hole.

Played catcher every game with 13 throw outs of base runners and a batting average of .450 with only two k the entire year. Voted team Captain, MVP, and held the highest grade point average on the team. Also, voted to first team All-County and 2nd team All-State. Played with East Coast Baseball during the summer under Joe Caruso, played very well with two home runs in Miss. State tournament and an average of over .400. During the 18 and under tournament in Atlanta Perfect Game batted .315 with only one k.
