Royals nearing deal with OF Podsednik (AP) (sports.yahoo.com)

The Kansas City Royals are close to signing free agent outfielder Scott Podsednik. A Royals spokesman says Podsednik, who hit .304 last year with the Chicago White Sox, would take a physical later Friday and possibly sign immediately afterward. Terms of the deal were not immediately known. In nine major league seasons, Podsednik has a .277 batting average with 249 RBIs and 266 stolen bases.
