3A Showdown: Stafford Gets Huge Win Over Sweeny (rivals.com)

While most of the focus has been on the 5A, 4A, and Private School Classifications, the most intriguing battle for the state title could be 3A. If you recall, Dallas Madison shocked the 5A and 4A competition enroute to winning the DISD Coca Cola Tournament earlier this month. Currently, Madison is the favorite to win the 3A state title in March. However, a pair of Top 10 teams clashed Friday night in Houston, and from the looks of things Stafford (18-3) and Sweeny (16-4) are legit possibilities to represent Region 3. The very talented and young Spartans (only two seniors) made good on 22 of 25 free throw attempts, including eight straight during crunch time to pull off the exciting 53-50 win in a playoff type atmosphere.
