Rhode Island promotes Trainer to coach (AP) (sports.yahoo.com)

The University of Rhode Island has promoted defensive coordinator Joe Trainer to be its football coach. Trainer was introduced Friday as the replacement for Darren Rizzi, who stepped down last week to take an assistant coaching position with the Miami Dolphins. The 39-year-old Trainer served last year as Rhode Island's associate head coach and defensive coordinator.
