Zierden resigns as Lynx coach; Gillom promoted (AP) (sports.yahoo.com)

The Minnesota Lynx have promoted Jennifer Gillom to head coach after Don Zierden resigned to join Flip Saunders' staff with the Washington Wizards. Zierden's resignation and Gillom's promotion come just days before the Lynx open the WNBA season at home against Chicago on Saturday. In two seasons as coach, Zierden led the Lynx to a 26-42 regular-season record, including a 16-18 record in 2008.
