Wright leads Virginia past Samford (AP) (sports.yahoo.com)

Monica Wright scored 28 points and No. 23 Virginia beat Samford 69-60 in the opening round of the Cavalier Classic on Monday night. Wright also had nine rebounds and six steals for the Cavaliers (8-3), who led 35-31 at halftime. Chelsea Shine and Simone Egwu had 10 points apiece. Samford (8-5) made 13 of 31 3-point attempts, accounting for all but six of its field goals.
